Minerva
Refreshed
and updated, the original Minerva has lost none of the charm that
has made her such a firm favourite with Swan Hellenic’s
loyal passengers.
| Inside,
you’ll warm to the congenial atmosphere, panelled rooms,
the glint of brass, deep pile carpets and welcoming, buttoned
leather sofas. Soft, subtle lighting and carefully chosen
fabrics also extend to the cabins, all recently refurbished.
A wide range of accommodation choices are available, and even
the comfortable inside cabins don’t miss out on essentials
like ample storage space or on refinements such as bathrobes,
binoculars and books. |

Favourite
daytime venues include the conservatory-style Shackleton’s
Bar with its cane chairs and potted palms. You can hide away in
the Library where newspapers, an extensive collection of fiction,
books on the destinations we visit, as well as games and assorted
jigsaws are among the most popular diversions on our days at sea.
|
There’s
also an internet facility to keep in touch with home. And of
course there is the Card Room, exclusively reserved for
Diamond Bridge guests
between 4.00pm and 7.00pm each day for duplicate bridge (we
shall start a little later on port days). After your open
sitting dinner you might want to head towards the Darwin Lounge,
which provides the perfect venue for a classical trio, occasionally
a folklore show by a local troupe, or an entertaining talk. |
Adding an extra dimension to your cruise are the guest speakers
and informal workshops. The speakers include: Colin McEwan, Head
of the Americas Section in the Department of Africa, Oceania and
the Americas at the British Museum; Keith Haskell, a former Ambassador
to Brazil and Peru, who spent 38 years in the Diplomatic Service,
including 12 years in the Middle East and another 12 in South
America; Sir Peter Heap who was Ambassador to Brazil from 1992
to 1995, and who is currently Chairman of the Brazilian Chamber
of Commerce in Britain and Chairman of the Britain Brazil Trade
Forum; the Right Reverend Michael Turnbull, who has been Bishop
of Rochester (1988 – 1994) and Bishop of Durham (1994 –
2003). Workshops will be presented by Peter Welton, Emeritus Professor
of Fine Art at De Montfort University, and Maggie McNie, a Master
of Wine since 1986.
