What
is the standard of play likely to be?
Much the same as you will find at most local bridge clubs, in
other words highly variable. Most of our clients tend to be people
who are determined to have an enjoyable "holiday with bridge".
If anything the standard is a little higher on the hotel holidays
than on the cruises because those who are really keen can't bear
the thought of playing just one session a day.
Are
inexperienced players welcome?
Yes (but only if they come with a partner). Sometimes people ring
me up concerned that they will spoil other people's game. Believe
me, if you play badly your opponents will be delighted to play
against you time and again. As long as inexperienced players come
along with the target of trying to avoid finishing bottom each
session they will get more enjoyment than those who are miserable
when they come second!
Are
singles welcome?
Most certainly (however we would not recommend that a very inexperienced
player comes without a partner). We always guarantee a partner
and, to that end, I generally fulfil the role of the "spare player"
on cruises, whilst on the hotel holidays we have extra team members
to fulfil that role.
Does
the group meet other than in the bridge room?
We arrange get-togethers and cocktail parties throughout the our
holidays. In particular we always have a get-together for our
singles early on the holiday as well as one for our first-timers.
Additionally we do our best to try to help sort out non-bridge
problems and assist with excursion requirements.
Are
non-players welcome?
Of course. We quite often have couples join our cruises, one of
whom is a non-player. Indeed our bridge programme on board is
such that the bridge sessions take place at times that do not
interfere with social activities. On hotel holidays we also get
a smattering of non-players but, since the main bridge sessions
are at night, they need to be avid readers or keen drinkers!
